Firefly is an amazing and very unique TV-series by Joss Whedon. The concept of a space cowboys Sci-Fi show is just wonderful, and the cast was perfect for the show. Unfortunately the show was cancelled in 2003, after just one season. A made-for-TV movie followed in 2005. If you haven't seen Firefly yet, go buy it. Now!
Here are some of my fave scenes and quotes from Firefly...
Simon: Um, I'm trying to put this as delicately as I can... how do I know you won't kill me in my sleep?
Mal:You don't know me, son, so let me explain this to you once: if I ever kill you, you'll be awake, you'll be facing me, and you'll be armed.
Simon: Are you always this sentimental?
Mal: I had a good day.
Simon: You had the Alliance on you, criminals and savages... half the people on the ship have been shot or wounded, including yourself, and you're harboring known fugitives.
Mal: I'm still flying.
Simon: That's not much.
Mal: It's enough.
River dancing in "Safe"
"Doctor could be called a lot of things, coward wouldn't be one of them though." ∼Mal, "Safe"
Mal: Y'all see the man hanging out of the spaceship with the really big gun? Now I'm not saying you weren't easy to find. It was kinda out of our way, and he didn't want to come in the first place. Man's lookin' to kill some folk. So really it's his will y'all should worry about thwarting. [to Simon] Gotta say, doctor, your talent for alienating folk is near miraculous.
Simon: Yes, I'm very proud.
Mal: [about River] Cut her down.
Patron: That girl is a witch.
Mal: Yeah, but she's our witch. [cocks gun] So cut her the hell down.
"The next time you decide to stab me in the back, have the guts to do it to my face!"
Mal and Wash "keeping their heads" while getting electrocuted by Niska... from "War Stories".
Niska: I think this is not enough [money]... not enough for two, but sufficient perhaps for one? Ahhh, you now have...
Zoë (points to Wash): Him.
Zoë: ...I'm sorry, you were going to ask me to choose, right? Do you wanna finish?
Zoë: Preacher, don't the Bible have som pretty specific things to say about killing?
Book: Quite specific. It is however somewhat fuzzy around the subject of knee caps.
Mal: Did you tell her yet?
Wash: Tell her what?
Mal (to Zoë): Your husband has demanded that we sleep together.
"Take me, Sir. Take me hard."
∼Zoë, "War Stories"
Saffron: You must be loving this.
Mal: Not a bit. I've seen you without your clothes on before... never tought I'd see you naked.
[Jayne wakes up in the infirmary]
Jayne: What's going on?
Simon: You got knocked out.
Jayne: Did we get a pay-off? Did we get the money?
Simon: Can you move your arms and legs?
Jayne: Huh? [consentrating and worried]...they're not moving.
Simon: Do you wanna know why?
Simon: Your spine...
Simon: ...you hit it pretty hard when you fell.
Jayne: Oh... Spine?
Simon: Yes. So I gave you something to knock out your motor functions so you wouldn't wrench it when you came to. Should wear off in half an hour. You'll just be bruised.
Jayne: My spine ok?
Simon: How much did they offer you to sell out me and River on Ariel?
Jayne: That's crazy talk.
Simon: Then let's talk crazy. How much?
Jayne: [looking around for help] Anybody there?
[River sticks her head in]
Jayne: Anybody else?
Simon: You're in a dangerous line of work, Jayne. Odds are you'll be under my knife again... often, so I want you to understand one thing very clearly. No matter what you do, or say, or plot, no matter how you come down on us, I will never, ever harm you. You're on this table you're safe. 'Cause I'm your medic, and however little we may like or trust each other we're on the same crew, got the same troubles, same enemies - and more than enough of both... Now, we could circle each other and growl, or sleep with one eye open, but that thought wearies me. I don't care what you've done, and I don't know what you're planning on doing, but I'm trusting you. I think you should do the same. 'Cause I don't see this working any other way [walks out of the infirmary].
[River sticks her head back in]
River: Also, I can kill you with my brain.
Jayne: [reading letter] '...love, your mother.' How does it sit? Pretty cunning, don't you think?
Kaylee: I think it's the sweetest hat ever.
Wash: A man walks down the street in that hat, people know he's not afraid of anything!
Mal: You know the old saying...
Tracey: When you can't run, you crawl, and when you can't crawl... when you can't do that...
Zoë: ...you find someone to carry you.
Inara: I suppose you heard most of that?
Mal: Only because I was eavesdroppin'.
Jayne: 'Cause I don't know these folks. Don't much care to.
Mal: They're whores.
Jayne: I'm in.
Kaylee: Everybody's got someone... Wash, tell me that I'm pretty!
Wash: Were I unwed I'd take you in a manly fashion.
Kaylee: 'Cause I'm pretty?
Wash: 'Cause you're pretty.
Kaylee: Goin' on a year now I ain't had nothin' twixt my nethers weren't run on batteries!
Mal: Oh, God! I can't know that!
Jayne: I could stand to hear a little more.
"I'm a leaf on the wind. Watch how I soar."
Mal: Think she'll hold together?
Zoë: She is plenty torn up, but she'll fly true.
River: Storm's getting worse.
Mal: We'll pass through it soon enough.
